The video "Farming Barcelona" is currently being showcased at the exhibition hall of the central headquarters of the Diputació de Barcelona until the 3rd of October. Created by the well-known photographer and documentary filmmaker Patxi Uriz, this audiovisual work complements the photographic exhibition and book titled "Farming Barcelona. Portraits of a Changing Agriculture." This multimedia project, which is part of the Barcelona Agraria programme, aims to shed light on the stories of farmers who are working towards more sustainable agriculture in the Barcelona region.
Uriz (Puente la Reina, 1964) is a globally acclaimed filmmaker and the founder of the production company Ultreia Films. He has received the National Geographic Award and a Goya for his works. Throughout his career, he has traveled to over fifty countries, showcasing his dedication to the agricultural world. In his contribution to the book ‘Barcelona Farming’ (Barcelona Provincial Council, 2024), he highlights the efforts of farmers who are working towards a safer, healthier, and more sustainable food future in the province.
In the video created by the filmmaker, he presents interviews with several farmers featured in the book, providing a diverse portrayal of sustainable agriculture in the province. The individuals interviewed include Maria Rovira from De la Maria Eco in Piera, who practices organic farming; Pol Dunyó from El Mosaic in Òrrius, focused on farming with horses; and Germán Domínguez from El Nano Farinetes, who grows zero-kilometer vegetables and sells them at the Saturday market in Sant Boi de Llobregat. Isabel Simó from the Els Campaners Community Food Garden in Ullastrell shares her experience in communal farming, while Salvi Safont from Can Salvi in Gallecs and Montse Marcé from Sínia Pujadas in Vilanova i la Geltrú advocate for agrobiodiversity. Representing urban agriculture is Joan Carulla from Barcelona, and natural and organic viticulture is showcased by Rubèn Parera from Finca Parera in Sant Llorenç d’Hortons and Marta Casas from Parés Baltà in Pacs del Penedès.
