The Montserrat Rural Park Land Bank launches training capsules to attract new entrepreneurs to the agricultural sector

The new microcourses, which are in-person and completely free, are aimed at both young people looking to enter the agricultural sector and active farmers interested in transitioning to organic farming.

The Montserrat Rural Park Land Bank has launched its first training activities, focusing on the basic principles of organic farming for vegetable gardens and fields of olive trees and nut crops. These in-person, free microcourses are designed for young people who want to enter the agricultural sector, as well as for active farmers interested in transitioning to organic practices.

The first training capsule, to be held in the town of El Bruc on the 22nd and 23rd of October, will cover the key aspects of starting an organic vegetable garden. With a total duration of six hours, the sessions will include a technical visit to an operational organic farm, as well as providing useful and relevant content for those beginning in this field. Topics will include initial economic investments, necessary machinery, plantation design, fertilisation, and pest and disease control.

The second microcourse, with the same duration and structure, will focus on organic olive and nut cultivation, and will take place in Piera on the 5th and 6th of November. This course will centre around a visit to a local company that produces organic olive oil.

These training capsules are organised as part of BCN Smart Rural, the strategy of the Barcelona Provincial Council aimed at transforming the agri-food sector in the region. They are co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Participation is free of charge, but places are limited, so registration is required here.
