The Montserrat Rural Park Association has presented an ambitious action plan for 2025 that consolidates and expands upon successful initiatives developed to date. The proposal, approved at an assembly in Vacarisses, prioritises revitalising the primary sector and promoting local products.
Among the most notable developments for this year is the expansion of the Origen Markets, which will reach nine municipalities in the Montserrat area. This initiative, which has proven to be an important distribution channel for farmers and local producers, will help bring locally sourced food to a broader audience.
The Montserrat Rural Park will gain visibility through an experiential activities programme, including artisanal oil and cheese tastings, as well as recreational and educational events centred around local agri-food production.
One of this year's strategic priorities is securing the agricultural sector's future in the area. To this end, the land bank will intensify its efforts to facilitate generational handover in farming operations. Meanwhile, the shared processing facility El Tall, located in Marganell, will expand its offering with an innovative meat processing service, specifically designed to support small-scale livestock farmers in the park.
These initiatives reinforce the entity's commitment to preserving agricultural heritage and dignifying farming activity in an environment as iconic as the Montserrat massif. The approved plan seeks to balance tradition and innovation, ensuring the sector's economic viability while preserving the landscape and cultural values that characterise this territory.
The Montserrat Rural Park exemplifies the success of the territorial management model promoted by the Barcelona Provincial Council, which works to preserve agricultural land and collaborates with public and private entities to ensure the viability and competitiveness of farming, livestock and artisanal businesses. This project, which receives technical and financial support from the corporation, has become a benchmark in promoting sustainable agricultural activity and enhancing locally sourced products in the province of Barcelona.
