The Land Bank continues to make successful progress in its mission to facilitate access to land for new farmers. Currently, recovery and adaptation work is being carried out on agricultural plots in Manresa, Els Hostalets de Pierola and Esparreguera, directly benefiting three young people who wish to enter the sector.
The work includes several phases of land adaptation. The process begins with clearing and cleaning vegetation, including the removal of abandoned fruit trees and olive trees. Subsequently, the plant remains are shredded, and the process concludes with ploughing the soil.
Among the most recent actions, the adaptation of an irrigated plot in the Guix-El Grau area of Manresa stands out, ready for organic vegetable production this year. Meanwhile, in Plans de Pierola, Els Hostalets de Pierola, work is underway to prepare plots for fruit tree planting. Finally, in Ocata, Esparreguera, work is being carried out to transplant olive trees and prepare a new vegetable plot.
A project to promote generational renewal in farming
The main objective of this Barcelona Provincial Council initiative is to reduce the initial financial burden of launching new agricultural projects, particularly concerning land preparation. The project is implemented through contracts between owners of unused land and new farmers, thus contributing to the recovery of abandoned plots and generational renewal in the agricultural sector.
The beneficiaries of these actions are mainly young and new farmers looking to start their professional activity in the agricultural sector, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Land Bank as a tool to facilitate access to plots and promote sustainable agricultural activity in the province of Barcelona.
