The five municipalities of the Lower Tordera Agrarian Space have embarked on a revolutionary process to redefine their food model. At an initial meeting held in Malgrat de Mar, an interdisciplinary technical team took the first step towards developing the Food Strategy for the territory.
The working group, comprised of technicians and councillors from Malgrat de Mar, Palafolls, Santa Susanna, Tordera, and Blanes, represents an innovative approach. Specialised professionals in economics, environment, society, culture, and health will collaborate to offer a holistic and complex view of the local food ecosystem.
The initiative, driven by the Barcelona Provincial Council, goes beyond a mere statistical analysis. Its purpose is to construct a food model that is sustainable, healthy, equitable, resilient, and locally focused. Following the approval of the Food Charter in June, this new project will enable the design of a concrete Action Plan to transform the territory's food reality.
A food model for the future
The diagnosis will not be limited to mapping the current situation, but will seek to design strategies that drive a profound transformation in production, distribution, and consumption processes across the Baixa Tordera municipalities.
The proposal aligns with initiatives from pioneering cities like Barcelona, Milan, and Valencia, which have already implemented similar projects. It demonstrates that the true transformation of the food system emerges from the territory, with the direct participation of its local agents.
