On March 22, 2019, Barcelona Provincial Council and Vilafranca del Penedès City Council are organizing an "Innovation Session in the Rural World", an overview of Catalonia's agricultural PECT projects. They do it with the support of Tarragona, Girona and Lleida Provincial Councils.
Europe is facing important challenges such as the loss of demographic weight from rural areas to urban areas, the abandonment of agricultural activity, the continued loss of biodiversity, and climate change, among others.
PECT projects represent an opportunity for the territories to reverse these dynamics and generate innovative economic activity.
Almost half of the 25 projects approved in the first call for PECTs are focused on the agricultural field or contain some action on this subject.
In this way, this day aims to highlight the work that is done from various places in Catalan geography, innovating the rural world and breaking the cliché of rurality anchored in the past and showing a rural world that is firmly committed to innovation.
This day is intended for rural development entities, agricultural sector entities, producer associations, technological centres and universities and the public in general.
