The Land Bank portal of the Barcelona Provincial Council has completely revamped its image and functionalities to facilitate connections between owners of unused land and individuals interested in cultivating it. The new platform, which retains the domain bancdeterres.cat and is available in Catalan, offers more intuitive navigation and a modern design to ease access to information and streamline the process of transferring abandoned plots. Additionally, it includes content on how to establish agricultural businesses, especially aimed at those looking to enter the primary sector. The portal also features an intranet for registered users, simplifying the process of searching for and offering land.
This private area is the central element of the website and provides a detailed catalogue and map of available plots. Interested individuals must sign up and specify whether they are seeking land to cultivate or offering land for others to farm. The platform is also designed for agricultural business owners looking for successors to take over their farms.
The new website replaces the portal created in 2019 as part of the European project BCN Smart Rural and has been developed with a responsive design that adapts to all devices. This update aligns with the Barcelona Provincial Council’s goal to promote the sustainable management of agrarian parks and spaces.
Catalonia currently has nine land banks, six of which are in the province of Barcelona. In total, these banks manage around 1,000 hectares across 102 municipalities. The web platform, driven and managed by the Barcelona Provincial Council, aims to revitalise the agricultural sector in the region and become a reference point for those wishing to start or expand their agricultural activity.
