BCN Smart Rural promotes Berguedà's agri-food future in a participatory webinar

The session, which will take place on Thursday 22 April in a telematic format, is aimed at mayors, technicians and experts in agroecology and local food systems in the region.

BCN Smart Rural, a project led by the Barcelona Provincial Council and co-financed by the European Union through FEDER funds, has organized a meeting of competitive creativity with mayors, technicians and experts in agricultural development in the Berguedà county. The session, which will take place on Thursday, April 22 in a telematic format, seeks to explore the opportunities and challenges of the agri-food model in the territory.

Mayors, technicians and experts in agroecology and local food systems from the Berguedà have been invited to participate in this meeting, which will begin with a review of the outstanding characteristics of the local agri-food sector. After analyzing current indicators, participants will be invited to turn their attention to the 2030-2050 horizon to imagine a sustainable and near-term agri-food system.

Through participatory dynamics, crucial questions will be raised such as facilitating generational relief and access to land, increasing the value of local agricultural products and the profitability of agri-food micro-enterprises, as well as reducing emissions and increasing the carbon sequestration capacity of agricultural land.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their concerns, needs and proposals, prioritizing actions through an online voting application. This webinar will allow BCN Smart Rural to understand the demands of Berguedà and will collect the data, strategies and action proposals in a new digital platform developed by the Barcelona Provincial Council. This forum is intended to respond to the needs identified in the different rural territories of the demarcation.
