Barcelona will become the epicentre of the debate on sustainable food policies on Tuesday, November 19th. The 'Feeding Barcelona' event, taking place at the Paranimf (Main Hall) of the Industrial School, will bring together national and international experts with the goal of promoting strategies that ensure healthy and local food for the municipalities in the province.
This event, jointly organised by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Metropolitan Strategic Plan of Barcelona (PEMB), is supported by the Joint Office for Sustainable Food (OCAS), the Government of Catalonia, and the Barcelona City Council. It is primarily aimed at technicians and councillors from local councils and other local entities in the province, with the mission of providing comprehensive training that clarifies concepts, offers a general framework for action, and motivates municipalities to address their food model in a cross-cutting manner within local policies.
One of the highlights of the event will be a roundtable featuring representatives from four European cities that are leaders in food policies: Milan, Dijon, Valencia, and Barcelona. The speakers will share their experiences and best practices in the development and implementation of municipal food strategies.
The day will also include practical workshops on the various phases of creating a food strategy. Local experts, such as representatives from the Agrarian Space of Mataró and the Agrarian Park of the Ódena Basin, will share their experiences with attendees.
The full programme for the day, which will run from 09:00 to 17:30, is availabl here. Those interested can register via this form.
This meeting continues the presentation session of the 'Feeding Barcelona' guide on food strategies and builds on the work initiated under the Food Charter of the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona (CARM).
Through this initiative, the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Metropolitan Strategic Plan of Barcelona reinforce their commitment to promoting more sustainable and resilient food systems in the province.
